KUALA LUMPUR — The joint recommendations from the ASEAN Conference on Women In Politics (ASEAN WIP KL2015) will be tabled during the 27th ASEAN summit next month, said Malaysia’s Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Shahrizat said among the recommendations were to enhance connectivity and innovation among ASEAN’s women politicians.
She said the resolutions would be refined before being submitted to the prime minister, who is also ASEAN chairman, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak within two weeks.
“I hope ASEAN will give emphasis on the issues to be highlighted because these issues come from (women) delegates of political parties who had brought victory to their parties during the general elections in their respective countries,” she said when closing the ASEAN WIP KL2015 here, Saturday.
The inaugural WIP KL2015, themed Promoting Representation through Connectivity and Innovation, was organized by BN and participated in by 121 delegates from 24 political parties.
The conference opened by the prime minister was aimed at creating a political network for ASEAN women involved in politics.
Meanwhile Shahrizat concluded that the conference was well received by her counterparts in the ASEAN region as well as the other countries.
“It is important to women in politics to network together as a family because we have common interest, ground, and struggle for not only the women but also citizens of our respective countries,” she said.
