Vietnam pledges support to Laos as 2016 ASEAN Chair

Vietnam will work closely with and support Laos to successfully execute its role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2016, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh told his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith at a working session in Hanoi on March 5.

Vietnam will work closely with and support Laos to successfully execute its role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2016, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh told his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith at a working session in Hanoi on March 5.

The two deputy PMs agreed to coordinate closely with other ASEAN member states to establish the ASEAN Community in late 2015, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

The host and guest exchanged information on the diplomatic relations of their countries and shared views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Both underlined the sound traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, Governments, and people which have increasingly developed across the board.

They agreed to work together to effectively implement the agreement reached by leaders of the two countries at the 37 th intergovernmental meeting in January 2015.

The officials also suggested enhancing high-level delegation exchanges and furthering relations between the two foreign affairs ministries through the implementation of the 2014-2020 bilateral cooperation agreement.

The Lao Deputy PM and FM also works as Head of the Commission for External Relations of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
