JAKARTA, 17 December 2013 – On the sidelines of his official visit to Indonesia, the Speaker of Myanmar’s Parliament Rt. Hon. Thura U Shwe Mann met with high-ranking officials of ASEAN Secretariat at the Association’s headquarter in Jakarta. He was accompanied by a group of parliamentarians from Myanmar.
Deputy Secretary-General Nyan Lynn of ASEAN for Political Security Community welcomed the Speaker on behalf of Secretary-General Le Luong Minh who is away on official mission. Also on hand was the Deputy Secretary-General for Corporate and Community Affairs AKP Mochtan.
DSG Lynn briefed the Delegation on the structure and staffing of the ASEAN Secretariat. He also explained the functions of the ASEAN Secretariat in light of the goals of ASEAN Community 2015.
The Myanmar Delegation was given a brief tour of the ASEAN Secretariat before leaving. Rt. Hon. Thura U Shwe Mann is on an official visit to Indonesia at the invitation of the House of Representatives of Indonesia
