ASEAN Week Held At Bangkok’s Main Railway Station To Promote ASEAN Community

BANGKOK, Dec 16 (Bernama) — Thailand is organising an Asean Week this week themed “We are Asean: Asean Community, Asean Citizen,” at Hualamphong,Bangkok’s main railway station, to promote out the Asean Community (AC) which is set to be established by 2015.

Various activities, including cultural and brass band performances, as well as Asean quiz competitions and exhibitions, are included in the event, held between Dec 16-20, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

The event is organised by the government-run Public Relations Department (PRD), in partnership with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the Asean Association of Thailand and Bangpakokwittayakom School.

At the opening ceremony Monday morning, PRD Deputy Director-General Prawin Pattanapong said that Asean Week was organised as it was a PRD policy to inform the public about the Asean Community (AC), set to be formed by 2015.

A co-organiser, Tanongsak Pongprasert, a senior SRT official said that the SRT hoped to be a part of the success in building the AC through the “Asean Week” in the capital.

“Asean Week” is one of nine events organised by the PRD to promote the establishment of the AC. The other eight events will be held later in the PRD’s eight other regions across Thailand.
