Senior Officer Political Cooperation

    Currently  the  ASEAN  Secretariat is  looking  for  a  qualified candidate  to  fill  the  position  of  Senior Officer  under  the  Political  Cooperation  Division.  This  position  reports  directly  to  the  Assistant Director for Political Cooperation Division.

    Currently  the  ASEAN  Secretariat is  looking  for  a  qualified candidate  to  fill  the  position  of  Senior Officer  under  the  Political  Cooperation  Division.  This  position  reports  directly  to  the  Assistant Director for Political Cooperation Division.

    The duties will cover, but are not limited to the following:

    1. Monitor and provide the required support to ASEAN’s political cooperation issues under the division’s purview
    2. Provide  technical  and  substantive  support  to  the  relevant  ASEAN  bodies  and  their respective  meetings,  i.e.  APSC  Council,  AMM,  ASEAN  SOM,  ad  hoc  ASEAN  SOM  Working Groups,  SEANWFZ  Commission,  SEANWFZ  Executive  Committee,  Working  Group  for SEANWFZ  Executive  Committee,  ASEAN-China  Senior  Officials  Meeting  on  the Implementation of  the  DOC  (SOM  on  DOC),  and ASEAN-China  Joint  Working  Group  on  the Implementation of the DOC (JWG on DOC)
    3. Monitor and provide the required support to the implementation of the ASEAN Charter, the TAC, the SEANWFZ Treaty and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC)
    4. Monitor  and  coordinate  the  report  on  the  progress  of  implementation  of  the  APSC Blueprint,  including  by  organising  the  annual  Coordinating  Conference  for  the  ASEAN Political-Security Community (ASCCO)
    5. Provide  technical  and  substantive  support  to  the  implementation  of  programmes  andprojects in the area of political cooperation

    Requirements:

    • Postgraduate Degree in International Relations, Political Science or other appropriate specialist discipline.
    • Supervisory experience, within management position with a minimum six (6) years high-level experience in a recognised specialised field.
    • High-level technical skills and knowledge in area of responsibility.
    • Proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
    • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, planning and the development of policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and work effectively with people at all levels of the organisation.
    • Demonstrated sound oral and written communication skills and sound interpersonal skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative work practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct both formal and on the job training, and foster the career development goals of staff.
    • Experience in identifying training and professional/technical development needs of staff.
    • Excellent command of English, written and spoken.
    • Competency in computer skills with adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook where relevant to the position.
