Swiss Garden Hotel

15–16 October 2014 (Wednesday and Thursday)

SEAHRN’s Third International Conference on Human Rights and Peace and Conflict in Southeast Asia is the predominant venue for new research on the promotion and protection of human rights and peace in the Southeast Asian region. A broad range of stakeholders, from Scholars and students to civil society and government organizations are involved in the presentation and discussion of new developments in human rights. There will be over 100 papers presented, specialist panels on subjects such as Religion and Human Rights and Democratic Deficits in Southeast Asia.

The two previous regional human rights conferences in 2010 and 2012 were noted for the range of issues covered and the engagement with emerging and critical human rights issues in Southeast Asia. With developments such as the ASEAN Economic Integration, the challenges to democracy, and concerns about the rights of non citizens, it is important that new research on these issues is given a venue for discussion. Human rights defenders, activists, researchers, and academics are strongly encouraged to take part in this event to both explore and discuss about current research, and to network with various stakeholders working on the promotion and protection of human rights and peace in Southeast Asia.

Keynote Speakers:

  1.     Prof. Chaiwat Satha-anand, Director, Peace Information Centre, Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University
  2.     Mr. Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, President, Malaysian National Human Rights Society
