The ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute will organize a webinar titled ‘Polarized and Mobilized? Examining 2022 Electoral Campaigns in the Philippines’ on 20 April 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:15 am (Manila/ GMT+8).

From the selection of campaign slogans to the formulation of policy agenda, elections serve as a two-way communication platform between those who aspire to govern and the sovereign public. The lead-up to the May 2022 Philippine elections witnessed a kaleidoscope of campaign strategies, narratives, and activities that indicate both novel forms of grassroots political participation and the resilience of traditional machine politics. What campaign strategies and issues, both new and old, have galvanized the population and what do these mean for the elections and beyond? What points for reflection can we draw from the conduct of the current elections?

This webinar examines the various electoral campaigns in the Philippines for the 2022 elections and maps out the causes and consequences of these strategies. In addition, the event discusses near- and long-term scenarios for the Philippine political landscape and the state-of-play of future electoral campaigns.
