The University of the Philippines (UP) Institute of Human Rights and the UP Institute of International Legal Studies, together with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, are co-organizing the online forum entitled “Crimes against Humanity and the International Criminal Court: Nature, Procedure, and Implication on the Philippine Situation.” The event will be held on 25 June 2021, Friday, at 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Manila/Kuala Lumpur Time) via Zoom.
The first part of the forum is the lecture of Judge Raul C. Pangalangan, former Judge and President of the Trial Division of the International Criminal Court (ICC), and Professor of the UP College of Law. The lecture will explain the nature of crimes against humanity and the evidence necessary to support their prosecution. The second part of the forum is the presentation by a panel of experts who will discuss the implications of a full investigation on the drug war and the arguments that may arise, as well as their analyses of specific aspects of the ICC procedure involving the Philippine situation. Both the lecture and the discussion of the experts will assist the legal community and the public in understanding the nature of crimes against humanity and its implications on the efforts to seek effective remedy, both for the victims and the Filipino people.
