ASEAN and the Myanmar Coup

May 21, 2021
CSO Event in Philippines

Last February, the Tatmadaw, Myanmar’s military, staged a coup d’état that saw leading members of the ruling party National League for Democracy detained and elected members of Myanmar’s parliament held in house arrest. The incident has put the spotlight once again on ASEAN, and a special summit was convened last month in Jakarta, attended by the Myanmar junta leader and leaders from other ASEAN member states. The coup is only the latest incident to test ASEAN’s crisis management abilities and its idealized centrality.

Asia Pacific Pathways to Progress, in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines Office, will be holding the first Track Two Observer Discussion Forum for 2021 on ASEAN and the Myanmar Coup.

Join us on May 21, 2021, from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon Manila Time.
