Workshop on Women, Security and Peace in ASEAN

December 9, 2013 - December 10, 2013
ASEAN Event

The Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism (Working Group), an Entity Associated with ASEAN under the ASEAN Charter, in cooperation with UN Women, is organizing a two-day Workshop on Women, Peace and Security in ASEAN on 9-10 December 2013 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Makati City, Philippines.

The overall aim of the workshop is to raise awareness on the issues of women, peace and security as part of the ASEAN’s broader human rights agenda. These issues include the human rights of women in conflict and post conflict situations in ASEAN; normative frameworks, policies and mechanisms to address these issues; and opportunities for advancing a relevant and responsive Women, Peace and Security agenda in ASEAN.

Among the expected participants of the workshop are representatives from the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR), and National Human Rights Institutions of ASEAN Member-States. Representatives from ministerial bodies whose mandates are relevant to the issues to be discussed will also be invited, as well as civil society organizations who have done relevant work related to women’s rights, and peace and security issues.

Due to the limited slots for the workshop, the organizers would appreciate if potential participant could kindly confirm his/her attendance on or before 27 November 2013.
