Malaysia condemns the escalation of violence in the northern Rakhine State over the past months resulting in the loss of innocent lives and displacement of people.
The Cabinet of Malaysia discussed today the current situation in the northern Rakhine State of Myanmar and has decided to issue the following statement:
Malaysia condemns the escalation of violence in the northern Rakhine State over the past months resulting in the loss of innocent lives and displacement of people.
Malaysia calls on all parties involved in the recent violence to refrain from taking any actions which would aggravate the situation further.
Malaysia also calls on the Government of Myanmar to take all the necessary actions to address the alleged ethnic cleansing in the northern Rakhine State.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon the Ambassador of Myanmar to convey the Government of Malaysia’s concern over this issue.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia will meet Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor and Foreign Minister of Myanmar at the earliest possible date.
