Organisers and some participants of the Return our Central Provident Fund (CPF) Rally were called in for questioning by the police on Friday afternoon.
Yahoo Singapore understands that the rally’s main organiser, Ms Han Hui Hui, was questioned for seven hours at the Police Cantonment Complex as part of investigations into whether the protest, held at Hong Lim Park on 27 Sept, had been an unlawful assembly.
The Return our CPF protest had caused an uproar when it clashed with a YMCA charity carnival held on the same day and at the same time.
Several protesters had marched into the carnival during a performance by special needs children.
The permit for the CPF protest had been revoked by NParks earlier that day.
Seven other protesters were approached at their homes and brought to a police station where they were interviewed about the protest.
The participants were asked how closely they were related to Han and the co-organiser, Mr Roy Ngerng, as well as if they were aware that the permit for the protest had been revoked.
According to The Online Citizen, they were questioned for between one to five hours.
Ngerng has also been approached by the Police but is currently overseas. Along with Han and several other protesters, he will be represented by human rights lawyer M Ravi.
A police spokesman confirmed that investigations into the protest are ongoing.
“Police can confirm that several persons have been asked to assist in police investigations. No arrests have been made,” he said in response to queries from Yahoo Singapore.
