LBH Makassar (originally LBH Ujung Pandang) was founded on 23 September 1983 by lawyers and advocates of PERADIN (Indonesian Advocates Association) and later joined the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute Foundation (YLBHI) headquartered at Jl. Diponegoro No. 74 Central Jakarta. The idea of forming LBH Makassar at that time was carried out by a team consisting of several senior advocates such as M. Ilyas Amin SH, Harry Tio, SH., H..M. Arsyad Ohoitenan SH, Fachruddin Solo SH and Sakurayati Trisna SH.
