KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) — Two backbenchers Wednesday criticised the Coalition of Malaysian Non-Governmental Organisations (Comango) over its plan to submit human rights issues involving Malaysia to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva which they said were in conflict with the Federal Constitution.
Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Seri Noh Omar claimed Comango was hiding behind human rights to carry out its agenda to undermine Islam and promote unnatural sex.
Debating the Security Offences (Special Measures) Bill 2013 at the Dewan Rakyat today, he said the group’s action was a threat to Muslim unity in the country and a security threat in the new millennium.
“There are certain issues raised by Comango in its report that challenge the constitution and could potentially undermine the position of Islam as the religion of the federation.
“The report is also seen as promoting the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT), apostates…do these issues concern human rights?” he asked.
His view was supported by Shabudin Yahaya (BN-Tasek Gelugor) who concurred that the report by Comango to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council could undermine the faith of the people in the country.
“Comango is not merely seeking basic human rights but also sexual orientation freedom for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders; freedom to be apostates and equal religious rights.
“Comango also questioned the use of the word Allah, on the Syiah (Shiite sect) and the rights of a father to Islamise underaged children, among other things. If we ever give in, then other people will dictate to us what to do,” he stressed.
Comango is an association of about 50 Malaysian NGOs which had drawn up a report on human rights to be submitted to the UPR in Geneva tomorrow.
